We are hosting various interesting and fun workshops at the festival. Here is a selection.

Succulents in a Jar by Dorina Buian

The “Succulents in a Jar” workshop offers a creative and hands-on gardening experience. Scheduled for a relaxing Saturday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, this event is designed to bring the community together through fun and learning.

The workshop accommodates up to eight participants at a time, welcoming those as young as 10 years old, with younger children allowed if accompanied by an adult.

During the 30-minute to one-hour session, attendees learn to care for and creatively arrange succulents in jars, taking home their miniature gardens as a memento. While the workshop is free, donations are accepted to cover material costs, supporting the continuation of these community events.

This chapter highlights the spirit of community and creativity, illustrating how such activities connect people to nature and each other in meaningful ways.

Birdwatching Walk

Discover Wildlife with @hartibaciunaturetours and Joe England.
Join Joe England from Hartibaciu Nature Tours for an easy 3 hour walk exploring the wonders of the bird world in and around Hosman. Learn how to identify different species and why this area is special for birds. We hope to find a number of the iconic birds that make this landscape unique: eagles, owls and bee-eaters! No special equipment necessary.
The workshop will be held in English.

Tracking Workshop

Joe England from Hartibaciu Nature Tours will be holding a 3 hour walk close to the village, uncovering the stories of animals from the tracks and signs they leave behind. An interactive, in-depth workshop with a competitive twist…think nature meets crime scene investigation. Reengage those instincts that all humans have, to discover and understand the environment in a way that would have meant life or death. In todays world, our survival does not depend on these skills, however a deeper understanding of the natural world leads to a deeper enjoyment and appreciation of it.

For two days, Ceramica de Nocrich and Nocrich Scout Center will be sharing their beautiful handmade ceramics at the festival. Visitors can admire and purchase the beautifully crafted pieces throughout the day. Additionally, the scouts will be conducting decoration workshops on fired pieces, based on donations, from 11.00-13.00 PM and 16.00 – 18.00 PM each day. A perfect spot for anyone interested in exploring their creativity and taking home a handmade souvenir.

Mobile Library of the German Cultural Center

The Mobile Library of the German Cultural Center is a compact version of the main library, offering a carefully curated selection of literature for children, youth, and adults. This dynamic space promotes reading through interactive activities, games, and craft workshops inspired by books. The aim of the Mobile Library is to bring the joy of reading closer to the community, encouraging active engagement and creativity among all age groups.

Interactive Reading for Kids in German: Stories, Crafts, and Fun by the German Cultural Center

Join us for an engaging children’s reading workshop hosted by our mobile library! This special event is designed to activate and enliven the space around the mobile library, offering a delightful experience for young readers. Our sessions will feature carefully selected books, curated by our expert team, with each reading followed by fun, interactive activities.

For instance, if we read a story about a rabbit, children can participate in creative activities like cutting out or coloring rabbit-themed crafts. These activities are designed to reinforce the themes of the stories and make the reading experience more memorable.

The workshop will be led by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about bringing stories to life for children. We look forward to welcoming young readers and their families to this vibrant community event!

Paper Factory with Catalin

Recycling can be fun! From scraps to sheets, at the Nocrich Scout Center I experimented with recycling paper. That’s how Paper Factory was born, a personal project I developed while volunteering.

Working with pulp and texture allowed me to explore materiality and discover new ways of creating handmade paper.

There are endless ways to create. Whether through natural pigments or by encapsulating a glimpse of nature and landscape, the process can be both playful and deeply meaningful.

Paint a 3D model of the Holzmengen fortified church

Their goal: to capture them as they exist today – using state-of-the-art technology, including drone flights, 3D image processing and 3D printing. They make the resulting models accessible online via QR codes – and now you can touch and paint them too!
This workshop combines the past and the future and invites you to become part of preserving our cultural heritage.
Participation is free of charge, but a donation for the association Europäisches Jugendbegegnungszentrum Kirchenburg Holzmengen e.V. (EJBZ) is requested.

The film will be shown by the German Cultural Centre in Sibiu in German Language with English subtiles (FSK 12).

Schaufenster Enkelgeneration film screening

SCHAUFENSTER ENKELGENERATION – SPRACHE UND IDENTITÄT (Showcase Grandchildren’s Generation) is an international internet film project by the Goethe-Institut that portrays young people from the German minority. The project has already been carried out in several Central and Eastern European countries. The project in Romania focuses on four young people between the ages of 25 and 33 from different regions of Romania where there is a historical German minority. In the visual portraits, they provide a brief insight into the emotional world of their generation, addressing the question of what role the German language still plays in shaping their identity today, what place it occupies in their everyday lives, and to what extent their own multilingualism is perceived as a valuable and beneficial asset in an increasingly complex Europe.
